PostSubject: A Cat's Claws, Weapon Training   Fri Jan 31, 2014 8:30 pm

Walking into the open training field, she watched the people sparring around; she was definitely in the right place. Straight ahead was a man, formidable looking and tough. He looked like the kind of man who could use many weapons and use them well, *He must be the trainer*.

"Excuse me, I'm here for my weapon training. They sent me here from the Recruitment Tent... They said I could train in any or all the weapons here... I'd like to do all of them if I can." Hoping she had the right guy, she was a little nervous.

A gruff, short human male is waiting for you next to a table full of weapons. “My name is Mr. Sig, I am the Weapon’s Training Master here and I will be training you on the basics of your weapons. I was told to expect a female Druid, I assume that is you? Since it appears that you do not have anyone to train with, I shall be your training partner."  He smiles, "Don't worry, I wont hurt you... but if anything does happen, I can heal either of us quickly enough.  And since you have stated that you want training in all our weapon choices, we shall begin with Swords."

Sig walked to a table loaded with weapons and grabbed a one handed wooden practice sword.  "Grab a Wooden Short Sword and lets get going. The Sword is a basic yet tricky weapon. They range in length, and can be one handed or two. You can attack from all angles with a slash to cut, or try to take off limbs or embed it into the body. You can stab with it, shorter swords may have an easier time with that since you wont have to pull the weapon back as far as a longer blade. Try not to get cut with your own blade by over swinging or by having someone overpower you. Both speed and strength play big parts in usage of swords, usually depending on what size you have. You can also use the hilt as a blunt damage by smacking it into someone's skull or body."

"I will attack first, you dodge and then attack me and we'll move on from there."  Sig lets you get a comfortable grip before he aimes an overhead swing at your head.  He is going slow enough that it is at beginer level to try and dodge, he's taking it easy on you but not too easy.

((Post a Dodge roll post, then incorporate what amount you dodged into your RP post.  Sig will dodge your swing before he switches weapons and heal any damage))

((Rolled Dodge 89+1=90=Dodged completely))

Tokani was happy that she got the correct guy, and by his srtaightforward attitude when he spoke to her and explained things. The training was moving quickly but she was good with that. She was in a playful mood instead of her usual lazy one and new things always got her excited like a kitten with a swaying cattail infront of her.

She sidestepped toward his sword arm and ducked down, making his swing go past her head and miss her completely. As she stepped in, she swung her sword at his stomach. With her sword in her right hand, it was aimed to slash his midsection from his left side to his right side.

NPC Dodge roll is 1-5= hit completely, 6 = dodge completely

even though he's really badass and has like a gazillion agility which would make him super hard to hit... in training he's gonna go easy on you even with dodging so...yea ... but if you actually attacked this npc for real then he'd get a level and actual stats that you wouldn't want to mess with

Toning down his abilities to match his opponent, he dodged too slow and took the hit in the gut with a thump and a small gash formed cutting his shirt and skin a little.  "Not a bad move, getting inside my guard like that," he tells her as he healed up the wound.  It was mild but he didn't want it to stain anything else he was wearing.

Walking back to the table, he says, "Ok, next is the Staff."  Picking one up, he indicates he wants you to as well with a wave of his hand.  "A staff is a weapon with no blade on it at all, if you attach a blade to the end of a Staff to make it like a spear, it is now considered a Polearm.  Many people may think that it is slow because of it's size, but it will whip through the air faster than you can say 'Ouch' from it hitting you upside the head.

A good medium ranged weapon, you can block from any angle, deflecting an attack away from you, attack from all angles with a swing, and you can jab at the opponent.  This is a weapon to help keep your enemies at a range where you can attack, but hopefully they can't reach you at... depending on their weapons.  Same as before, dodge me and then attack."
He swung the staff at your left side, with his right hand forward and his left at his hip holding on to the other end of the staff.

She liked praise as much as the next feline and practically purred she was so happy. She was showing some bit of skill and was glad to get approval. "Thank you," she smiled to him. Taking her sword to the table, she picked up a Staff. It was a little more comfortable in her hands as she was accustomed to the forest and sometimes had to use sticks to help her family in trouble since she didn't have the claws and fangs they did. She listened to his teachings and waited for the attack.

He was showing so far the use of his right hand to attack more, so readying a block on that side was what saved her from getting hit hard in the ribs. With her staff straight up and down, she placed it at her left side, keeping her hands away from the strike-zone he was aimed for. His staff hit with a crack that gave her arms an aftershock but didn't do anything to her. With her staff already in a vertical position, she swung it downward with a small angle, aiming for the top/side of his head.

With a quick step to the side, he dodged her attack from above.  It was risky in that sometimes you would get hit closer to your shoulder instead of your head and get a broken collarbone but he knew what he was capable of and it was worth it.  "Good, fast and to the point.  Next is Polearms.  Return that Staff and grab a Wooden Blunted Spear."  He too returned his staff to the table and grabbed one.

"A Polearm is much like a Staff, except you have a weapon type at one or both tips.  This greatly changes the effect of the weapon... if you have a blade, it is like a spear and you can use it to slash or stab at a good distance longer than a close ranged fighter with a dagger... if you have a flail or mace type weapon on the tip, it does a blunt type of damage... so it all depends on what is at the top.  you can put weapons on both tips or just one.  Same as staff with blocking and attacking from all angles and deflecting an attack away from you, this weapon just adds to the damage type depending on what it is.

Pay attention to my grip, it's slightly farther back than it was in the Staff, better for thrusting to increase my range... this would work well for going against someone taller than you who could reach you with their longer arms... or if they have a long weapon too.  Now depending on what type of weapon you have on the edge, this can be used for big hits that kill quickly or smaller slashes that wound and drain their hit points slowly.  And some attacks, if you get lucky, could kill quickly with smaller slashes, depends on where you aim."

With all that said, he readied his attack, with a sweeping/thrusting move, he aimed to slash high on her left upper leg from the inside to outside in a slightly upward motion.  If successful with a real spear, not a blunted one, this move could sever the femoral artery and cause the opponent to bleed out quickly, with this blunted one, it would cut and bruise but not much else.

She paid attention to what he was saying as she switched weapons. A spear felt good to her too, just as the staff had, familiar... but with the added bonus of a spear-tip at the end, she could get used to that. It made sense, the grip and stance he was using, and she wasn't a small girl but there were plenty of enemies out there that would be taller than her; it was good to learn how to fight against larger opponents.

Tokani tried to block the attack with her spear but he was too fast for her this time and she only knocked it slightly out of the way. This left a shallow gash on her leg, barely bleeding. She decided to go with a thrust, straight for his lower chest, just under the ribcage, but not quite a belly shot. Standing aimed slightly to her right with her left foot forward, she gripped the center with her left hand, and the back end of the spear with her right. She quickly thrust forward with her right hand, letting the spear slide through her left hand smoothly while taking a step forward with her left foot.

Sig had been concentrating so hard on staying at the level of his opponent that he had underestimated this attack. Just under his ribcage, the spear thrust into him, causing some massive damage to a few organs. He quickly started healing himself... after removing the spear from his gut, and when he was all better, he healed her leg also. "Very good job, I think I miscalculated the length of your arms and stepping forward at the same time. Next is the Axe."

He put both spears back on the table, blood still on both tips. He cringed a little, the one with more blood on it was his, he'd make sure to get some trainees to clean those ones real good. Picking up an Axe and handing it to her, he grabbed one of his own. The were wooden and blunt like most all their training weapons, but that doesn't mean they can't hurt you... as their last spar showed.

"For Axe basics... there isn't that much. You either try to slash and cut by trying to graze with the bladed edge, you try to embed into the body or take off limbs by using the entire Axe-head and momentum and not just the bladed edge, or you can use the Handle as a block, or hit someone with the handle's butt end like a staff jab. You have to get a little closer for trying to take off limbs than a slash, but if you can manage to take off an arm, all the better.

Try it out, you wont be able to take off limbs, but it'll bruise you nicely if it hits. Watch out for recoil, if you hit wrong and it bounces back at you then you might be the one missing a limb, same goes with hitting too hard and going clean through something and the momentum carries it on and into your leg."

With his right hand placed in the middle of the handle and the end being held by his left, he swung at her left shoulder/neck area. This move could break a collarbone easily if not blocked or dodged.

Tokani was petrified that she'd actually stabbed her trainer in the gut. Would the humans here kill her for this?? Stab her and skin her to become a rug, put her in a bag and drown her in a river? She'd seen some people doing this before to other cats, but wasn't sure what they would do to her. Seeing Sig heal himself and even praise her for her move was confusing, never before had she been praised for hurting someone. Since he didn't seem to mind and there was no lasting damage, she figured she should keep on her training and just try not to kill him... or herself in the process.

Taking the Axe from him, she listened very carefully to his teaching. It felt funny in her grip, being so much heavier on one end, and his warnings about backswing and over swinging seemed very important. At least this was wooden, it shouldn't cut too much if he got her... or she got him again.

In a similar position as her trainer, he right hand was in the upper/center area of the handle and her left was at the end, her right foot slightly more forward than her left. She noticed the tensing of his arm muscles just as he started his swing at her shoulder. This gave her enough time to jump to her right and out of range of the attack. Now she swung her own axe, trying to take into account the awkward weight. She aimed lower, trying to take out his upper left thigh from outer edge to inner. She was going for a slashing/cutting move more than a 'limb-severing' move so she paid attention to how far into the swing she went.
